Case Notes:

Carl William Boye` -  Vietnam Campaign Medal cheat

Boye` served in Vietnam from 29th  April 1971 to 1st  June 1971. He is Queensland State Secretary and Public Officer for the Vietnam Veterans Association (VVAA) and Cadet Liaison Officer for his VVAA Sub Branch of Brisbane North

The Photo shows Boye` wearing a Vietnam Campaign Medal (VCM). Boye` spent twenty years in the Royal Australian Air Force as an Administrative Clerk, so there is no doubt that he would be aware of the criteria to wear the VCM.

The VVAA’s own web site says the following about the VCM:

“This award was issued by the South Vietnamese Government for six months service in South Vietnam.  Approximately 50,000 were issued to Australian and New Zealand service personnel.”

Not included on the VVAA web site is the following added stipulations:

“Six months service is not required for individuals who were wounded by hostile forces; killed in action or otherwise in line of duty; or captured by hostile forces”.

“Note that medical evacuation from the area of operations for any reasons other than wounds received in action does not constitute an exemption from meeting the minimum qualifying period”.

Here is an extract from the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) nominal roll showing Boye`’s service in Vietnam:

Boye`’s RAAF Service File also confirms the period of his Vietnam Service in this document:

There is a variation of one day between the DVA nominal roll and information from his personal file however, the difference of one day has no bearing on his eligibility to wear the VCM.

Boye` was returned to Australia from Vietnam because of personal reasons that will not be described here.

Boye` is a liar and a wannabe because he has purchased, had mounted, and is wearing a Vietnam Campaign Medal that he did not earn.

The ex Service Organisation has again been careless in checking the bona fides of those who hold high office.  As long as they are careless, wannabes will infiltrate their ranks and we will continue to weed them out.  The VCM is an easy medal to “fudge” and Veterans are continually being caught, in recent times we have exposed an ex Navy RSL President illegally wearing a VCM.

Perhaps it is a good time to warn the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Association that they have quite a few VCM cheats in their ranks who may soon suffer the ultimate embarrassment of shaming and naming,

Be a medal cheat at your own peril. Veterans and the general public everywhere are more aware of ANZMI’s roll and if you cheat you will most likely be snared, named and shamed.
