Case Notes:

Mario Caresimo is the President of the Port Augusta Returned and Services League (RSL).

Younger Veterans from the area say the RSL is very unfriendly and full of grumpy old men. They avoid the RSL like the plague and Mario Caresimo is the Plague Master. Mario came to our attention for wearing his medals incorrectly. One would think that in an RSL there would be someone who would have a basic knowledge of medals. This is obviously not the case in Port Augusta. Unfortunately lack of knowledge, inattention to protocols and tradition and the poor treatment of young veterans is the way of the modern RSL.

Last ANZAC Day Caresimo wore two incorrectly mounted medals during the ceremonies. The first is the Australian Defence Medal and the second is the Australian Service medal.

Caresimo served in the RAAF Reserve as an Engine Technician with 24 Squadron based at Edinburgh in South Australia. During his service he went on numerous flights within Australia and one trip to Butterworth in Malaysia. Perhaps he earned the Australian Service Medal for being on an aircraft that landed in Malaysia.

We asked Caresimo about the medal and he replied

"I will need to find my documents stored in a 20’ storage container with a lot of my belongings and files"

Obviously Caresimo has not been able to "find his documents" as we have not heard from him for some months.

Through the Port Augusta RSL we contacted the person who mounted Caresimo's medals and after some discussion he said "Who gives a f*** what way they are mounted".

Wearing medals the wrong way around and not knowing what the medals are, does not bode well for a person occupying the prestigious position of an RSL President. Caresimo is not a fit and proper person to occupy the position and we suggest he resign and sort out his medals before he brings the RSL into further disrepute.

Caresimo has earned his place on this web site for his bumbling managerial style and as an RSL President wearing his medals the wrong way around.

Welcome Mario.
